You ask me what I want..you want to give me something nice.
If you are open to requests, I'll give you some advice.
Just think of how much you would spend on some small gift for me,
Then take that same amount and give it to a charity.

No need to rack your brain of thinking something you can buy
When there are many needy souls who need it more than I.
Just think of all the inner peace that you could give to me
If my gift, and your money, were to help a charity.

I have no need for watches. I've already three or four
But that amount of money would go far to help the poor.
What need have I for jewelry or those fancy silken ties
When I could have the chance to bring a smile to some child's eyes?

If other people followed suit and took the time to give
How wonderfully we could enrich this world in which we live.
So give me that, my friend, and through your generosity
You'll give the greatest gift that you could ever give to me.
.
.

To the world you might be just one person but to one person you might just be the world.

Balladeer--This is so true...if each gave a bit of themselves to others..we would all have something given and received, even peace perhaps.

You have given us a part of your heart, and if each of us can add our heart part, perhaps we can put all these heart parts together and overcome all the sadness and despair in this world. What a gift that would be!

I agree with you wholeheartedly here. There are so many needy people in the world. I have my favourite charities that i give too all year, but I think you've just inspired me to put a little extra in the salvation army kettle this christmas. Thank you for this Michael.

"May you be blessed for this poem and I mean that in all sincerity Michael.  $1.97 feeds one person here a turkey dinner on Christmas Day at our downtown Gospel Mission, and I watch them going in and out in droves from "that coffee place" two doors away, at what, $2.50-4.50 a cup?  However, that place has a toy drop off at least!

Thanks to you all for you replies. Yes, indeed, giving is what Christmas should be about. There are so many unfortunate people who can use a hand or kindly word...it is a time of sharing. Last year I posted this poem and a member made a donation to a charity organization in my name..it was an undescribable feeling to know the poem helped someone in some way.

Again, thank all you wonderful people....bless you all.

And the sad thing is that, for many people, the spirit of giving usually only comes once a year, if at all. I enjoyed this.
