It was late New Years Eve
and you topped my heart with a smile
by tipping the hat of your friendship.
We danced and lingered for hours
just drifting in mischief and disbelief.
We, the drink of choice
for hungry eyes and lonely hearts
broke through the haze of boredom
and cornered ourselves a bit of hope.
So smiling followed where we went
as we spiced the night
with friends as strangers.
We didn't know fate
had made our resolutions for us.
Your voice filled my head
and I was lost in the step
of the twirl you made me dizzy with
as you spun the threads of your heart
around the comfort of my dreaming soul.
Since then I have searched for worthy words
and failed to find that single breath
to say how much I thank you for taking my hand.
It was late New Years Eve
and you tipped your hat
to the top of my dreams
secluding me in your arms
as midnight seized our kiss in its folding embrace.
