Mama, get off that train,
I promise not to see Balladeer again.
I met him when it was dark.
I didn’t know he was as old as the ark.
He told me I was to be his First Love - First Kiss,
I thought he meant wedded bliss

Mama, get off that train,
I promise not to see Balladeer again.
When you first met him you were quite cold.
Looking straight in his eyes you spoke so bold,
telling him I was nothing but a simple child.
It wasn’t fair, I’m over twenty-one and not that mild.

Mama, get off that train,
I promise not to see Balladeer again.
When I wasn’t home Balladeer was always at our house,
even though I told him to get lost and called him a louse.
Kept saying if you only liked him better
He’d buy me an Irish Setter.

Mama, get off that train,
I promise not to see Balladeer again.
You don’t have to move away from this town.
I won’t tell anybody I went out with this clown.
You’re leaving me the house and car,
Stop this kind of talk, it is bizarre.

Mama, get off that train,
I promise not to see Balladeer again.
Who is that standing inside the door?
Please tell me it’s not the man you called a bore.
What’s this you say, you’ll send me a letter,
and don't forget to feed the Irish Setter.

I kept waiting for the punch line to say, "Long John is so much better"  You must have a typo in there - lol

Well done poem, nevertheless.

They say that fruit that's not mature
Is nothing more than tripe..
I like to have them full of juice
And, girl, yore mama's ripe!!

This train heads for Las Vegas, babe,
And we are getting hitched.
She says she can't believe how much
Her life has been enriched.

You could have had me - I was yours
But you lost your reward
So don't forget on Father's Day
You send a real nice card!!!!!!

Justbleu - Thank you for reading. If mama was alive I'm sure she would of given me a run for my money. I'm a wee bit older than the one in the poem.

Mysteria - Glad you enjoyed. He would of been my mama's type.

LngJhnAg - You were not forgotten. I named the dog after you. Thanks!

Startime - Ok you can have Balladeer as long as you share! Glad I could entertain you.

Balladeer - Your just too much of a man for me. Had to give you to someone with more experience. I'll try to remember you on Father's Day.

inot2B,
What fun, even if at Balladeers expense! I like the joust response as well. Close call, eh?
