Iambe’s words still clinging
I drove north, letting
the tires of the old truck
sing a familiar melody
as images strode across
the windshield.

About 1:30 I stopped
At Ruth’s All Nite Diner
Just off I-35 outside of
Oklahoma City.

The coffee was not as bitter
As the cup I poured while
Iambe had showered,
But it lacked the dark richness

Caffinated and fueled,
I pulled to the unlit end
of the parking lot and
tried to decide where to go.

Wasn’t easy to hear myself think
Over the laughter inside my head
And the words still lounging with spurs
On that tender part of my brain,
Still I made a decision and turned west
Figuring I could always head north later

About 5:00 AM I pulled into a rest stop
shut the old truck off
And tried to sleep

“Fool… poor damned fool”
still stinging… I reached for some ointment
finding Uncle Jack in the bottle under the seat.

I drank a toast to fools everywhere,
Pulled my hat over my eyes
And slept….

So Iambe returns, and has struck yet again.  You know I enjoy these, and perhaps I shall take a turn with the story line as well...

perhaps in a day or two....

Why did she say this to him?  Why is he still thinking about her and what she said?  Let her go...or is there something I, we, don't know?

Enjoying......Nancy.

Interloper... Black of course... bt I don't recommend it over your serial or cereal for that matter.. ( chuckling) Thanks for the comment bud..

Deca... feel free to pick up the story line... and glad you enjoy.

Zinser... thank for letting me know. These are not probably the most popular with many people as they are a long series of poems about two characters and while I rty to write each so that it stands alone in a way...the meanings are better understood by having followed them or several of them over time.
Enchantress... Dear friend... there are things in life one can not let go no matter how painful. Perhaps it is the self destructive side of us that clings so fast to things we know are bad for us. Still... in this whole series, I hope to have shown growth in both characters and a certain amount of inisght to the reader. The why she said what she said is in my mind complicated but in effect, she is in a much different place emotionally than he is and to some degree pities him because he is not as "tough" and at the same time is drawn to just those qualities in him. may not make much sense...and I could spell out my thoughts in detail, but will not bore you with any more than this. ( smiling)
Thank you for the comments...they are appreciated.

I've just finished rereading all your Iambe tales and realized after some of your explanations that sometime ago, elsewhere, I read of another Iambe and am wondering if the writer was the originator of the challenge to carry  her about ....but I seem to have forgotten the poets name...a very good poet at that.

I have  enjoyed them all *s

I missed this one!  I need a notification or something   I don't want to miss out!
My curiousity remains...I still have yet to get my lazy butt into the archives to discover the roots of this tale

Enjoying,
~Krista

Your beautiful words & creativity allow me to connect with the same in myself.
Thank you for having the courage to share yourself so that I can too

I miss Iambe most when the weather here in Florida is the same as when I discovered her..
