Until Next Time…

Despite an inner voice of
warning, her heart has traveled
a path of uncertainty

retrieving her heart from the shelf
above the mantle, she gently
blew away the dust and caressed
it’s rhythm

the fragility of an injured bird, she
cradled it to her breast, ignoring the risk…
afterall, he said he loved her

after her fall from grace
she carefully placed the
shattered pieces, held
together only by a never
ceasing hope, back upon the shelf…

until next time….
