In My Back Pocket

You’d never guess to see me
that I keep one safely hidden
but still too close for comfort
He makes sure I’ll never be free

I tried to keep him under lock and key
but he throws such an awful fit
enough to put the neighbours in a tizzy
So I have to let him out you see

He works hard to get me in a mess
causing trouble everywhere I go
bring stares and anger in my direction
With loud words to make me confess

He is such a little fellow you’d think he’d do no harm
but you should hear the jokes he tells
all to make you red and angry
How I wish I had control of him with a magic charm

He only stands three inches high
and likes the free ride he gets
as I carry him around the town
I watch the glowing wicked gleam in his eye

He whispers to me the fun of sin
telling me there is no one to know
and he would never tell a soul
But I know with him I’ll never win

He tells me it’s just to have some fun
no one will ever be hurt
just some wild oats to sow
I am sure I’m not the only one

He smiles and says we’ll party tell dawn
flirt with all the cute men
take one home to have some fun
Then forget about him when he’s gone

He knows when I am lonely I can see him wink
then tell me to just listen to him
and I’ll feel right as rain
Sometimes I start to lean in close then I’ll have to blink

I guess I am just stuck with him
tempting me both day and night
to stray away from all I know
And gently lead me into sin

How I wish I could put him in a chest and very tightly lock it
I’d never have to hear his taunts again
or feel tempted to do the things he says
This silly, wicked little IMP I keep deep in My Back Pocket

Oh that little rascal is always there, night and day isn't it? A fun read, and I thought you were going to say leprechaun...imp is better, a more modern sound to it.

Temptation seems to always be with us...some give in more then others...does keeping him in your back pocket work?  James

Yes, I have one ... it resides in my wallet
Crazy little spendthrift indeed.
What a joyful read.  My eyes just flowed down the page

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
