Scarecrow

Silence stings with a crow's chant
coating the hollowness of my paper limbs and heart
easily torn at the seams of deprived and jaded dreams,
and, sleep eludes as the full moon observes
reflections in my eyes, blinking in the stale of routine,
and, everything is ugly
inside this rotting fairytale,
through the fields of emerald, I serve,
yet, in holding love, I fail

Someday, I pray
my prince will come
and take me away
to beauty's bliss...
in his arms, my fated home
escaping screams
of alone

Puppet, fool that I am,
I keep my dreams alive
and, that is why they haunt every moment
again and again,
and, too many times
I've been down the yellow brick road
of paved disguise
seeking wizards and wonder
discovering lies

And, sometimes the rain pours down
to splash rainbows in the puddles of my tears
and, sometimes, I wear the heaviness of hopeless,
hunchback, head sentenced down
with soul of straw easily set aflame
by impossible freedom
and slow-cooked love
simmering my heart to numb

Paradise isn't free
and, though I go through misery
I cannot gain serenity,
faith and woe, they do entwine
through the Oz of mocking time,
still, I go through misery -
no grant of serendipity,
left to stand in bitterness
to suffocate the breath of me...
this is the pain I sing each night
while waiting lone, no prince in sight,

no dewy kiss, null of friends...

as the twister in my tears never ends

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Melissa, my heart cries out to your sorrow, and I know with all my heart that your prince will come very soon and sweep you off your feet and lead you to the Emerald City of your dreams! (smiles) Scarecrows may feel like this indeed, but in the end, he got what we came for! (big hugggssssss) My heart is always with you! We all love you so much, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

missy

this is tremendously
sad, yet, clever and
moving too,
cheer up, it's hard to see
you write poems like this,
you'll find him when you
least expect it

This is great writing as always Melissa. Sad sorrowful subject, but written so well with your flair for poetry

Oh gosh do I ever know the feelings of this one and you have expressed them perfectly. A masterpiece in verse about the dreams of love that leaves us ever hopeful.   Very well done.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Melissa, you have done an excellent job tying your feelings into the persona of the scarecrow....wonderful use of the metaphor.

You made one mistake, though. The scarecrow was in search of a brain. You obviously have one in excellent working order

Melissa; This is a fabulously written analogy! A little wisdom...your happiness must be found within, as the scarecrow discovered he already had a brain...you need to see that you are that love already...then when your soulmate arrives you will share your love with his!!!  Hugs, Ellie

Melissa..I would critique this but I do not see anything wrong with it. It is a wonderfully written sad poem. I enjoyed reading it. Just never close the door to love and it will find you.

Melissa, this is a true work of art. I am very impressed.
So much meaning between the lines.

Deb
