Delicate fingers
Clasped tightly around
A small gold cylinder

Clock watching
Until the hour
She no longer has to twist
Time into business

Once out the door
She climbed into her mustang
Turning the corner out of town

Just outside the city limits
She stops to put the top down

Pulling hair pins and swinging
Auburn tresses to her shoulders
A white silk scarf will do

She Ties it gently beneath the chin
She grins at her reflection
In the rearview mirror

The gold cylinder in hand
With a twist she slicked
Her lips in gloaming color

She floored the pedal spinning
Into the street, headed into sundown
Trysting the vespering wind

Her station tuned in perfectly
Her heart speeding to the beat
Knowing the rhythm and it’s crescendo

As the miles flew up behind her
The more somatic she became
To her reason for scarlet red

Dear Regina, how often do you let your hair down and put behind your life of stress. The feedom of the wind and the untamed power of the Mustang, dressed to kill awaiting midnight till again reality awakens.
This made me feel like taking time out and enjoying a little life.
Loved the read, great stuff.

Sincerely
Rick

Now, that would be a road worth traveling. Spirited and rousing work, for sure.

It seems like a very normal activity, applying colour to the lips, but you've described it so well. Even the letting down of the tresses and the relaxed feeling of wind in your face...

There's almost as much freedom in this as riding a 4 legged Mustang into the wind.

Oh this sounds like something I would love to do, just get in the car, let my hair down ('course it's short) but I can pretend, put on some shades like yours, red lipstick and follow my dream (whatever that is)! LOL   Oh I loved this one, made me dream a little. (okay a lot!)

I can identify with a lot of this here. Top down, cruisin, tunes blastin. But I've learned one thing, never wear lipstick in a convertible. The wind whips your hair around your face and you get red lines all over your face from where it went into your lipstick!!!! That's the Tracey lesson of the day. LOL

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?
