We’ve not spoken for days now
Do you miss me? Do you care?
Was this a momentary feeling
Because for the moment I was there?

Do you remember what you promised
The pledge you swore on your heart
Will this painful love affair
Be over before it can start?

You promised you would be there
I thought you meant it for me
But now I realize you meant
You wanted us both to be free

The words you said were not
The words I chose to hear
I’m sorry, it’s my mistake
I’ve bumbled this I fear

Forget I ever told you that
You were the man of my dreams
For I was just a passing light
A momentary flicker it seems

I’ll smile the next time we meet
And nod as if to say
You’re forgiven for taking my heart
And throwing it away.

Lots of pain in this, and a recognizable emotion, I have to say.

What memories this does conjure up. I'm sure many of us have felt this way. We offer the biggest gift-that of our heart-and to have it handed back to us is a real blow.

Someone must know the meaning of love and the value of a warm heart before they can appreciate it...Oh Ive been in this boat before...Celine Dion was right though when she sang that the heart goes on!

You write of an emotion that happens far too often, and I wonder sometimes if we dismiss our feelings to make the other person happy far too often. Great write Sharon.

This is a poem filled with feelings that I can easily connect with. A powerful and beautiful write, Poet deVine. *sigh* filled with the hurt that comes when our heart is thrown away. Thank you, so much, for sharing it.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Oh, wow... this was such a sucker punch I had to read it again to appreciate it poetically instead of just responding emotionally. I know, I know... and I wish no one ever had to know.

Having had my heart thrown away, I understand the pain from this peice.
Very beautifully written.
