My Dream Man

I watch him gracefully walk through the door
He looks my way, and crosses the floor
He is handsome, statuesque, and tall
I stand there in a perpetual state of awe

Oh, the infinite beauty of this man
Eyes of blue, hair of brown, a golden tan
He smiles as people bid him a greeting
What I wouldn’t give for us to have a meeting

I look down at my imperfect body and clothes
He would never look at me, Goodness knows
I see the scuff marks upon my shoes
Seeing their condition gives me the blues

Oh yes, he would love these braces on my teeth
A kiss from me, he would need an aspirin for relief
The glasses I wear that are one inch thick
My figure that always seems to look like a stick

I see my panty hose has a big run down the leg
My dress has a stain from a broken egg
And what about this apron I wear
It looks as rumpled as my straggly hair

He’s coming this way, what way of escape can I take
He smiles and says, “Who baked the lemon cake”
“I did Sir,” I managed to say
Could you have another cake made for Friday

I promised to have the cake ready for him
That gives me two days to look proper and prim
When Friday comes, and he walks through the door
He’ll see my appearance will drop him to the floor

You might be so amazed in a few days
When polished and shined he returns your way,
He will notice not your outward facade
But the inner beauty talent has made.

What a nice way to look at it.  When I wrote this poem, I did it strictly for fun.  I enjoy humor.  Outward appearance may catch the eye, but it does take inner beauty to hold the heart.  Thank you for your reply.  Wanda

If you want a good lemon cake, you pick the tartest lemons, right? LOL. I enjoyed this, Wanda.

Midnitesun; And I enjoyed your comment!  I am still laughing at the implication of your reply.  Actually, I would hate to tell you how I bake a lemon cake.  Thanks for your response.  Wanda

I buy mine at the bakery. Or they sometimes fall out of a Duncan Hines box.

Midnitesun; I am curious; do they have many bakeries in Alaska?  I didn't see too many when I was there. :-) I did see a few salmon though. I am quite familiar with the Duncan Hines Box.  Wanda

I don't know about Anchorage, but in Fairbanks, the bakeries are part of the two big food chains, Fred Meyers and Safeway. And we have a small bagel& fresh pastry shop downtown. You baker girl would be very welcome here, but won't find any lemon trees. For that, she might try Ventura County, CA. Gosh, I must sound like a damn travel brochure!

Suetang; If you did enjoy this poem, the sequel is called "Friday at the Bakery."  It may be on the 2nd. page by now.  Thanks for your comments.  Wanda

Karen; After writing "My Dream Man" I knew there had to be a sequel.  When I wrote "My Dream Man" I kept thinking of what it would be like when the "DREAM MAN" returned on Friday for his second lemon cake...hence, the sequel was born.  Wanda
