"Love makes a poet even of a bumpkin" -Euripides Innocence assumes the correct path. Untutored and guided by metaphysical intuition seemingly innate, a pre-teen aspires to know Love in the purest sense. Yearn akin to a tot lost in a crowd with Dondi eyes begging to be re-attached to the feminine soul which higher instinct knows true life requires. Dread, on the precipice of "manhood", a cruel fall foreshadowed by glimpses of unyielding rigidity and a future of stone severity in the company of posers. Yes, that first time was passion, as pure as I would ever know, and it's torment I willfully chose, a sentiment absent esteem. I wish I'd never left you. The three mile walk through winter, was a warm glide, the first flight of an angel. We saw God through our rapturous eyes. That crepuscular eve dimmed for thirty five years a truth which others replaced with the worldly acceptability of desire cultivated for it's own sake. Religious taboos and other obstacles which spurred titillating and frenzied passion and relegated truth to a chimerical ideal. I stepped up and flexed to the notion of what men were supposed to be, becoming better at it than most. Through the casual liasons of the carefree age of Aquarius, through the caprice of the bump in the night disco era, tiring as the goodbar distributor in the time of avarice. Now many names and places, half known when fresh, mostly elude the memory of a heart which recalls those days of lies in light of a greater truth......... |

![]() (sad sigh) Love has indeed gotten more avarice over the years, and it seems so much of the magic of romance has faded, and I too know how it feels to be tricked painfully by the meaning of love early, for I am just about to turn 18 and I dream ever so much of falling in love. (big hugggssssss) But the light of a greater truth for loves essence still is with us all, and as long as we can follow our own hearts within reason, we can find that beauty. (sigh) BRAVO Richard! Your words are always so meaningful to us! I LOVE IT!!! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

Richard, you romantic softie you! You brought back a lot of memories for me with this one for sure. That first love, and the feeling of it, was never to be duplicated. Over time people's expectations of love change, and with it, the feelings do diminish somewhat. I can relate to him walking miles to come just for an hour, and the heart flutters of the waiting. This is a poem to be pondered at length, and a good one too. Thanks for the memories. ![]() Try giving your smile to someone who doesn't have one, and I bet someone will come along and give you another. |

oh, my hard to choose a favorite line....but these are my favorite "Yes, that first time was passion, as pure as I would ever know, and it's torment I willfully chose, a sentiment absent esteem. I wish I'd never left you." how utterly romantic and moving, don't know why but they made me feel that "first time" feeling..... -befriend yourself and you will never be alone- |

R, this is very very well expressed as only you can. It is amazing how each time we love it is on a different level, a different sense of passion, a deeper meaning. I do hope this will be a series. I love it, as I love the new pic! ![]() ~Time has cast a spell on you, |

Passionate memories, free love, first love, obligated love... you've covered several decades and kinds of 'love' here. I enjoy your open honesty. |
