My Dad Ernie

My dad Ernie
was an Air Force man.
That's exactly the way
I'll always remember him.
He worked on jets.
He made them fly
high upon blue clouds
in Air Force skies.
When he wasn't fixin' jets
he was workin' on MG's,
Fords and Corvettes.
Then one day my dad did
something especially for me.
He brought an old '56 Pontiac
Star Chief home just for me.
You see my dad had some
good thoughts on his mind.
Me and him would work together
on that Pontiac until it shined.
We installed new brakes and tires
and the leather upholstery cleaned up real nice.
We pulled the engine and we sanded
the body until it was just right.
We rebuilt the engine and Earl Schieb
painted the Star Chief white.
Then one day it was time to lay
our tools and coveralls down.
We dressed up real nice and cruised around.
Proud to show off the coolest '56 Pontiac
Star Chief in our town.
Yep that's what we did
way back then.
Me and my dad Ernie
the Air Force man.

I hope you had all of those memories with
your father....your expression says to me
that you did.  I enjoyed this...brought
back memories.

Your dad was quite a man. You've got some pretty special memories there

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Nice to have happy memories such as this. It reminds me of an ex of mine, and his Dad, always working on cars, restoring old ones. It was fun to watch. I'm sure even nicer to be a part of it.
