The Eagle Shed A Tear Today

The eagle's tear is visible
in everybody's eye;
metal birds pierced the human soul
and many of us cry.

Fire and smoke forms a halo
of death and hopelessness;
the smell of war encircles us
with catastrophic madness.

Criminals inflict mayhem;
a diabolical scheme
but, they can't kill our inner spirit
or destroy the American dream.

Our Red White and Blue proudly waves
to honor our brave men
the firemen and policemen
whose hardship never end.

Bedlam has struck a mighty blow
many have died in vain
but, God's love shows in everyone
compassion forms a chain.

The Eagle will soar higher
much stronger will he fly
spread peace and solidarity
and comfort those who cry.

Around the world our voice be heard
as we hold each others hand
and pray that God in His mercy
give comfort to all man.

Maggie, in your usual professional style you have created a work of art that speaks for all Americans I am sure.  I am so glad that you posted this one here, and your encouraging words at this terrible time are always a comfort to me.  God Bless.

Dear poet friends... I want to thank all of you for your comments on my poem. It is with a heavy heart that I wrote this. I pray that our leaders can find in their hearts compassion and loving leadership. It would hurt me more to see retaliation that would kill innocent people. War begets war, and fear begets fear, Love begets love... etc...
I'm sorry that I did not post the one responsible for the great photo. I just realized it after I clicked and sent. I got this at Moon & back graphics.... Again thanks for your time. Love and peace Maggie
