John Lennon Said

by Michael

As glowing embers turn to ash,
I probe my thoughts, think what to write.
A grieving spirit rests nearby.
Much emptier I find the night.

John Lennon said “All things must pass.”
It seems they’ve passed away from me.
So many things slipped through my hands.
I guess they were not meant to be.

I’m thrown to shatter on the floor.
Sometimes we all are broken, too.
Our job to pick the pieces up,
though often hard it is to do.

I know my laughter will return
and hurt will somehow disappear.
This grief will pass, as all things must
and memories won’t bring a tear.

Right now I choose to mourn the loss.
Each day and night I’ve need to weep.
All things must pass, a bitter truth.
I even cry within my sleep.

i think john lennon was paraphrasing a biblical scripture which says, "these things, too, shall pass"....

your poem says so much.... i'm glad you reposted it... thank you!

and yes, they will pass and john lennon said, "all ya need is love!"

*sigh*..... hard times these are...
"i even cry within my sleep" too......

Doreen, Paladin and Martie,
thank you for your kind responses.  This is an older poem.  Much of the pain has passed and I've been able to move on.  Hugs to you all and have a peaceful day.
