The Last Leaf Alone once more I wondered in the dark Of life and love and endings premature, Remembering some innocent remark, I paused and smiled, at once content and sure. Content to know our souls have found their mates And sure of unadulterated joy, I relished new found freedom from the fates And scoffed at any ruse they might employ. Just let them cause the sun to dare deny That life imbuing light that brings our breath. Though flowers fade and trees then surely die, The love we share will never taste its death. When ivy withers so upon the wall Our hands entwined we'll watch the last leaf fall [This message has been edited by David2 (edited 09-11-2001).] |
