Rolling of THunder

Rolling of thunder in dark midnight skies
Was drawing the slumber from dream laden eyes
My head softly nesting in pillow of down
Was tossing from force of the rumbling sound

A spear thrown from heaven crashed into the trees
A bolt from electric skies jolting the eaves
Too close was this javelin gleaming in white
Disturbing my soul in the dark of the night

Wearily waking from needed repose
To God’s loud percussions I slowly arose
Another bright spear and a splintering clap
Sent trembling chills through the bones in my back

Curious to witness this show that God staged
And to know who was target of Thor’s mighty rage
I crept to the window, in slow cautious fear
That another great arrow of light would appear

But instead, all had calmed, not a rain cloud in sight
A peculiar rehearsal for storms of the night
Then why such disturbance and bright piercing beams
To waken one tenderly wrapped in her dreams?

A full lovely moon, in a luminous globe
Cast a blanket of white on the trees and the road
In that moment me eyes lost all notions of sleep
With buried old memories beginning to creep

Visions of laughter and visions of tears
And love and remorse that I’ve known through the years
Were all spread before me on a silk sheet of white
Cast by the moon on that strage stormless night

Awake now , I turned as I lifted my  head
The white silken light was the sheet on my bed
It was an illusion , that storm in a dream
That never was heard and never was seen

It came to me suddenly, ending my peace
Allowing my heart one more tear to release
Little by little confronting the strife
That has passed through the violent storms of my life

Another day dawned, not a soul heard the roar
of the thunder that shook me and rattled my door
As I stood looking up from a carpet of leaves
I could see where a lightening bolt shattered the eaves

Was it real or a dream that was taunting my brain?
Nobody had witnessed the storm with no rain
It was just one more night to be left without peace
For the pains dealt to youthful hearts never do cease

superbly done. . . a dream, or real???

but, who knows when thunder shakes the "eves" of our lives. . . (love the word play there!)

Elizabeth, Wow, this has got to be the best poetry I have read thus far. How many unheard storms have left me sleepless? Too many to count, my heart responds. Wonderful work. Chris

Liz:  This is really intriguing.  So often, on the edge of a dream, reality and imagination become confused!
