my mom squinted
when she awoke
to find me
with a pierced earlobe
and dyed brown hair

and lamented
how emotionally empty
i had to be
to want to resort to such stunts

to which my father picked up pace
and bellowed about
what a changed person i have become,
with no regard to
societal convention
and their emotions

and they chided,
fussed,
warned,
pleaded,
sighed,
moaned etc

but well, self fulfillment presided
and i was still proud
that i had the courage
to do the things
i have always wanted to do

yes happy birthday!! hey I pierced my ear too... long time ago now..and had a few people around me "scream"... but it was something I wanted...

nicely done by the way.... story told in a few words with depths there for the reader to ponder...

Fate - Yanno, seeing how they reacted to that earring thingie - you oughta really shake them up - tomorrow morning, put on a dress and wig, wake them up, and tell them,
"Mom and Dad, I've been thinking....." lol - - Great poem you wrote here.
