It was hot 98 degrees and humid when Iambe stopped and looked up, wiping the sweat with an old rag she carried in her hip pocket, along with a folding knife. She’d been working All morning on Ted’s International, trying to Fix the carb which was Touchy to say the least And fickle to explain. I had just pulled in And was unloading my gear, But she didn’t stop for me, It was the heat… I offered her a cold soda From my cooler Which she accepted with out A word, Opened, And poured down Her throat like she was Pouring oil in a crankcase. Mopping her face again She looked at me with those Brown eyes of hers That could melt steel or my heart And simply said “River?” I spent the rest of the day Soaking in naked delight As her currents washed over me and I enjoyed the view |

The visuals here should be a delight for all to read.... the play on words? Excellence in motion.... |

I did enjoy this...the slow unfolding of the visuals was almost cinema like--but confess I wouldn't mind if you explained this one to me, as I feel as though there is something I don't quite "get". (My brain is running on empty again today, so humor me?) |

Deca.. you are too kind.. Serinity... the whole series of Iambe "stories" are built on a figment of some writers imagination... they are intended to develop a character..and express some insight into human nature. Iambe is a composite of several people I have known..and she is independent, self assured, with no putting on of airs..a woman sho knows what she wants, and does what she feels... rejecting in many ways the mold women are so often tried to change to fit... this poem was intended primarily to show that now matter how little in the day to day one might show affection or outward caring..they will with the right motivation and in the right circumstances..become a part of something initmate at which time, a closer understanding and bonding is achieved... it also is meant to show that men too..have a romantic side and may be indeed the "softer" of the pair in some cases. Role reversal in short... two unique characters I was "given" by another poet... and mine to give away should any other poet get enamored with Iambe as I am....and ask... she belongs to no one, but herself... and all I can do is hold for a while the eessence of her.. ( damn..I talk too much) INterloper.. yes it would be a wonderful way to pass a summer's day would it not.. thanks all for the comments.. |

Cpat--I don't want to write her, no, there are some times that I would like to be her. Enjoyed this! |

Martie: I think you probably are her in some ways...and no one is her in all ways... You would however... probably write her well... adding a dimension I can't. |

Excellent work again, Ron. I love how she goes all river-y. |
