Memories of you are like hidden treasures
that resurfaced today as I walked along
the golden stretch of sun drenched sand
My face came alive as I remembered your
kind face and how you once loved me

I was sure I saw your eyes looking down on me
as I glanced up towards the clear blue sky
And I'm sure I caught a glimpse
of your warm smile
as the sun reflected on the still blue water
A smile I used to see so very often as we
stood so close together and
gazed into one anothers eyes

The warming Summer's breeze felt like
your arms that had once enveloped me
as we gazed out to sea
marvelling at Mother Nature's beauty
There was once two sets of footprints
here as we stood and admired the heart
we had etched in the sand
professing our love for one another

But now the tide has come in
and washed away all traces of our love
and our footprints in the sand
Dark clouds have now crept across the sun
taking away all my memories of you
and the way you once loved me
Even my shadow that had
kept me company earlier
has been removed from my side
as this beautiful day turns cold and foreboding

I stand here alone with my
broken heart and my lost soul
Now the rain invades this day
as it camouflages my tears and
drowns me in my sorrow

I love that reference to the tide washing away the footprints. I could've written this myself. Ah the memories. Very, very beautifully written

Sue...this is so beautiful but yet so sad. I loved the flow and I could hear the waves lapping the shore

Love lost is sometime hard to write about without showing bitterness.  You have captured a warm past love and present loneliness without a trace of bitterness.  The
...Even my shadow that had

works very well.

Death comes not when we cease to breathe, but when we cease to dream.
