Take Me to Sea

Take me to sea in your red wooden boat
We’ll rock on the crests where the star twinkles float
We’ll laugh with the moon at the stories he tells
And sleep to the rhythm of soft ocean swells

Open the bridge over swift flowing streams
Let me come into your kingdom of dreams
Open the gates to your great castle wall
Let me be queen of the fanciest ball

Dream me a butterfly wish of my own
Measure my birthdays in inches you’ve grown
Make me a rainbow with fingerpaint hands
Skip with me back through the hourglass sands

Please let me into your childhood days
Into the sweetness of daisy bouquets
Show me your favorite fairy tale book
Catch me a rhyme on a candy cane hook

Open my mind to your innocent world
Under a blanket all cozy and curled
Little head slumbering, images creep
Into butterscotch visions that cradle your sleep

I’d love to know pure and true goodness once more
Please, grandson, allow me through childhood’s door

Elizabeth - Just a joy to read, as I glance over at the basket of toys I keep here (and play with) for my grandson.

Now you know I love this.  I had my granddaughter today and I love it when she lets me in, it changes my life for that time during that day, and your poem speaks to that feeling perfecty.  I loved this.
