Card Sharks They play off one another, games suited in enabling words; when the hand goes awry or stakes are too high, the amusement folds and they all fall down, a sea, a hasty fifty-two card pickup, only to resurface as King and Queen of poetry. He depends on her for basic moves, she clings to him to ignore the old-maid in the mirror, yet she holds the unmatched card. Quite a pair, yes, should we bow down to them, this King and Queen? Deal, deal another joker of fake-it poker, but keep those hands on the table, ace. © 2001 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 08-27-2001).] |
