Pussyfootin’

pussyfootin’
steppin’ ‘round those ‘portent things
keepin’ from those bites and stings
makin’ sure no one knows
you’re dodgin’ slings
and arrows aimed
to maim and claim
your livelihood and minutes fame

sidling through
the narrow ways
with whiskered breadth
to wield your days
and keen of ears
to skirt the wrath
of those who would
detour your path

your course is plotted,
laid out well
that only you,
indeed, can tell
its full intent,
significance,
to carry forward
to grand success
a victory of sweet design
brought ‘round by
each step’s align

and I will watch,
unknown by you,
as you play out
your roguish coup
