Soul Speak

If you listen to me
in moments of introspection
there is no guarantee
roads are paved in perfection
life is a series of mishaps and pain
a drama of fun and fortune
tears and smiles through sun and rain
yet, it seems, that I'm the one in the middle
between your head and heart
I shouldn't play second fiddle
my role is a sacred part
I'm the stairway to God's ears
still you tuck me away
when our answers don't fit your needs or tears
remember, a heart and brain can lead you astray
~
Indeed, a heart is a well-crafted gift
pumping poetry of love and compassion
yet, emotion can lead you adrift
sometimes it's decisions grow out of fashion
and so many times before
your heart has fallen for desire
it leads you to illogical doors
burning bridges with selfish fire
~
A brain is a powerful tool
solving equations of mysteries
often achievements play the fool
if you void dreams and fantasies
yes, your IQ can bring opportunites
going far in the world of smarts
but, don't sacrifice your inner child
tossing aside your soul of hearts...
beauty of excitement can fade away
in the dull of only an Einstein day
~
I am well-designed
to stand the tests of time
I am your other self
who seems to be the first left on the shelf
time and time again, you ignore intuition
to bring lusts and ideas to fruition
so, perhaps, there is one flaw with a soul
I'm the last one digested from life's bowl
~
It seems that I'm always the one in the middle
I am your soul - your inner truth, I won't play second fiddle
you must use your heart, head and soul
else, the hours of why? can take their toll
use all three equally, and you will see
that you're on the right path to being free

it is a song that rises from a bleeding
wound...or a smiling mouth"

Wisdom, heart, and truth.  Such a wonderful mix tied together in a beautiful write.  You grow each time you write and not only in your creations but in your understanding and sharing.  Well done.

Wonderfully written and a great message.

Throw your heart out in front of you
And run out to catch it.

Nicely put, Melissa.
The higher self keeps trying
to tell us what we should do.

Good read.

Hm, it is so hard to listen to the right thing when your heart is speaking so loudly. Excellent contemplative poem.
