Andy of Mayberry I have to ask why, the world has changed from a simplistic encompassing of family and goodness...of true kindess and trust? Andy was a hero, in his own right. A do-gooder of all that mattered, and a friend to all who were in need. An unconditional love, for his town and his inhabitants. A father worthy of respect and admiration. Opie never had to weather the storm of MTV, and news from Columbine. Life was a fishin' hole, and a home cooked meal prepared by Aunt Bee. A deputy that lacked in so many aspects, but a respect for a friend and commorade, always led Andy to do the "right thing". Where has all that gone? Has "progress" really made a positive impact on this world we call ours? The black and white surrealism of "Mayberry" may be the only legacy of an era lost in this high-tech world of indifference. So scoff if you may, at a small town fantasy of bliss. Wouldn't the world be a better place, if Andy and Barney were our loyal friends, our loving neighbors, our little piece of nostalgia that has been lost in the desensitized world that has become our reality... Maybe Mayberry wasn't so hick and idealistic.... Perhaps, Mayberry was a blueprint on honor, family, and the entire epitome of life... Such a simple concept. Such a difficult premise to envision in this 2001 world we now call ours... As you can see, I am a big fan of "The Andy Griffith Show". A world that has sadly escaped the "real" world of today. But, the innocence and heart of that time, is never lost on one who truly believes in honor, kindness, respect and a life fulfilled of simple pleasure...Are there any more "Andy" fans out there, or am I the only one? |

By the way my friend...I did enjoy the read and though I was a faithful watcher for many years...don't catch it much anymore... I like Big Swartz - Van Damn and all that decadant stuff now. I'm one of the BG&G gang, don't know what I ever saw in that "other" stuff...hee hee. jwesley |

Jwesley, I can see you can relate...I wish we could revisit those times of yesteryear....They seemed so much simpler and more wonderful. And I loved Elvis, too. That was real music, from a more 'real" time. Thanks for the sweet reply.... Elise |

Sigh..I never was so enthralled with Andy, but it sure did seem like a better life back then. And the tune is pretty catchy. Remember Lassie...and her family. What a nice little world that was. Where is Mark with that Damn time machine, anyway? S |

Sandra, We need to build one, either with a "watch" or a "dress". We really belong in another time... Love, Elise |

I was not the greatest fan of the show but I am sure the greatest fan of the principles on which it was built and as you said in your own words . "the innocence and heart of that time, is never lost on one who truly believes in honor, kindness, respect and a life fulfilled of simple pleasure" and that I do believe in so a part of Mayberry might just exist in the hearts of many? Great poem that got me thinking. To see real beauty ~ look with your heart |

I always liked the theme myself Elise. . . great job. . . we all need a little "Andy" now and then. . . ------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
