Grazing garbage, in early light
Before the Army took her loot.
She pushed her buggy, proudly
To bins of treasure hood.
She loved the white house on the hill
Beverly Palace, she named it
White stucco, and Ivy cleaved
She made her way to claim it.
The Palace Lady knew her plight
And tried to care for her, relentless
So today she decided to toss aside
A pair of hot pink feathered slippers
As haggard Betsy pushed along
She saw her from her window, coming
And watched her scoot her loot, aside
And began the task of digging
She was carefull not to be untidy
The streets were already litter filled
She sorted through the Palace Garbage
And suddenly she sceamed, thrilled
The Lady strained to see her prize
As Betsy pushed her cart astray
A tear fell down the Lady's cheek
As she watched Betsy, dance the day away

Regina, once again your stories have me in their spell. This gave me a smile. Lovely.

RWood~
You sent shivers of remember through me...

Those pink feathered slippers of my mother's
that I traipsed around in ...
Thank you for a tender recall~

Thank you all for being so great and kind to me. This is a true story. While living in Ca. I witnessed it myself. Taught me a lot about giving.
Sincerely,
Regina

Cool poem, I recall a near mad street person who had herself duct taped against the weather. Knowing she had refused a helping hand from a friend of mine I had to use trickery to set up her "discovery" of a modest cash gift.
