Summer Morning Virginia Salter morning dresses up the day as trees swing and sway to the music of the wind sun slowly climbs elm’s height crow and gull take flight as I watch from the wings in the distance fires burn casting their scents to wind’s flow scratching into our vision a stinging that permeates our hope in these hours leaving an element of concern for land, animal and the caretakers summer is short for many yet long for field and stream and scream of blaze that seeks to devour with licks of flame take action, oh, Farmer, raise high your shield may water be the sword you wield © August 26. 2000 |
