Birthday Flowers

Distant love yields precious longing
Heart’s belonging, emptiness
More intense is love’s sweet yearning
For a kiss and soft caress

Sad are teardrops of desire
In the blazing sun of day
‘Til the sight upon the doorstep
Of a birthday’s bright bouquet

Every bloom a kiss of pleasure
Every flower a sweet caress
Bringing love so near and present
Filling me with happiness

Flowers are a splendid rainbow
Drying tears of lonely days
Lighting up my eyes with colors
Clearing melancholy haze

Scent of roses, grace of lily
Daisy blooms of joy and peace
Birthday flowers always cheer with
With words of love that never cease

“I love you” in every petal
“Wait for me” on every bloom
“I am with you” whispers to me
In the scent of sweet perfume

Exquisite birthday flowers are
A gift of loving sentiment
They are the gentleness of you
Tender petals, lovely scent

Flowers sent while we’re apart
Reflect the beauty of your heart

Here it is your birthday, and it is you giving us the gift - your words!  I truly hope I will live long enough to say I knew you when you penned this piece on the blue pages (before you become too famous on us), as it is absoutely beautiful!  Many happy returns for a wonderful birthday, and my wish for you is that these flowers gets delivered in person next year (or sooner)!

Liz,

You write in ways that I could only dream of.  You're such a gifted writer and this poem is yet another fine example of your work.  Happy Birthday, my friend.  You inspire each of us in so many ways.
