Like  cold water flowing
Over mossy stones,
Memories of  family
Can be hard to hear
Over noises from the
Day to day.

Their quiet whispered
Cadence cascading in
Small rivulets of thought,
Half remembered and
Long left undisturbed,
Have grown layers
Of protection against
Abrasive reality.

Things were larger then…
Houses, people, places.
Hurts were healed with
A simple kiss,
As days flooded with sunshine,
Overflowed the banks of time.

Reaching with outstretched fingers
To touch what once was,
But is no more…
I know that memories of family,
Like water flowing over mossy stones,
Are impossible to hold
Without feeling the chill
Of winter.

This is an especially poignant penning as my mother would have celebrated her birthday this day....

so I celebrate her memory.

Thank you for this....

You write very well, Ron.  This one feels like a soft-focus black & white portrait within a Victorian frame, begging for acknowledgement and a moment in the spotlight...

Thanks Cindi, and yes I think at times we forget to remember until the situation is one that forces us to.
