Through hallways dark And ceilings tall Behind the stones That make the wall Inside the crypt Below the stairs Within a room Where no one dares Before a shelf With knowledge old Upon a stand Of iron cold There lies a tome With lock ajar A book of spells: THE BLACK GRIMOIRE. This manuscript Of ancient lores Contains within Forbidden doors Infernal cries Like none have heard Lie just beyond A single word And spirits wait To be unbound And claim as theirs The mortals found Transforming souls To hellish tar Forever damned: THE BLACK GRIMOIRE. Dust suspended In the air The smell of mold Everywhere Candles flicker Casting light On the parchment's Evil site Symbols drawn In human blood Giving praise To things of mud Foreign script In unknown toungue Possessing life Into dung Sounds that make The fearless scared Vile smells That none have bared Conjurations That defy Nature's laws With darkened sky Brought about Through sorcery Midnight pact Not meant to be Invoking demons From afar To channel through: THE BLACK GRIMOIRE. Inspired by A muse from Hell Calling forth An evil swell Entities From lowest planes Waiting to Usurp the reigns Creatures not To be described All those whom The Dark One bribed Legions in The bowels of sin Hoping to Break through and win Fiendish powers Permeate Incantations Deviate Stygian In every way This Book of Dead Kept from the day Always sought But never found This blasphemy Of sacred ground So long it lies With lock ajar Man's fate is in: THE BLACK GRIMOIRE... Irish Rose -- not much to understand here, really... this is simply a tale, in the style of H.P. Lovecraft or perhaps E.A. Poe, describing a very evil book of spells which should never have been written, and if it is ever found, especially by the wrong person, it could be the end to all that is good. Simply a nightmareish story for Halloween or a campfire... Thanks for reading and commenting. -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." "Everyone can hear; few can listen." Thanks, JM... this was a very fun departure from my usually positive mindframe. It makes for a good live reading during a Halloween party or open-mic night, especially in costume, black lights, and fog machines... Thanks for your comments. -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." |

Yes, this is very spooky, and has it's lessons behind the story, I think. Enjoyed the form and the tale. Sandra |

There are always lessons behind the story, Sandra -- it then becomes a matter of how far we choose to take them... Thanks for your comments. -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." |

Thanks for your time and comments, Tiersden -- glad you enjoyed. It was fun to write, too, despite its ominous topic matter. -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." |

Mark I have never heard of The Black Grimoire, and just found a link to read about the spells and medieval magic. I love when a poem leads me to learn something new..whether a word or a concept or of history. Thank you and I loved the rhyme and rhythm..I enjoy writing in form. ~Wynter "The worst prison would be a closed heart". |

Glad to "point you in a direction of questioning", Wynter. Thanks for reading and commenting... it's neat to find out when someone gets inspired by a writing; be careful though -- don't say any of those incantations out loud! ;-> Thank you much, Serenity... I thought this might be a fun tale to tell. -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." |
