Muslin white curtains, ...and cracked window pane, Crickets are chirping, ...in evening's refrain, Ebon night table, ...by comforted bed, Children are sleeping, ...prayers long since said, Out in the kitchen, ...wood cupboards are bare, Soft is the humming, ...of white frigidaire, Bare light bulb hanging, ...sits coffee pot dry, Teardrop stained table, ...young mother does cry, No answers forthcoming, ...no need to ask why, Alone at the table, ...young mother does cry. This is moving portrait...you know how you can smell the scent of a house? I was smelling laundry and starch and dinner remnants...perfect from you again, Mike! |
