Still Life Snowy Egret rooted in the shallows of Pudding Creek, neck craned downward, in wait for unsuspecting fishes. The following day, we observe him - standing in the same spot: white bird in still life. Two duck families feed in the marsh; a doe and her two spotted fawns jump the levy, mama stops, listens for signs of danger; the bird is a statue. We draw comparisons, as humans do, poor lonely heron, we forget that life can be this simple in need. Why don’t we hunt and harvest anymore? We have lost the natural ways, so we dedicate life to cubes of isolation, collecting paper and coin to buy what the earth gives away. © 2001 Corinne Bailey |

we forget that life can be this simple in need. I count this among your best Corinne. Loved the title and the musings of your inspiration. Smiling, this is very well done! |

Why don’t we hunt and harvest anymore? We have lost the natural ways, so we dedicate life to cubes of isolation, collecting paper and coin to buy what the earth gives away. So true Martie, wonderfully woven. "Like Sand underneath the snow, I make you mine." Kristin Hersh |
