Gloria you thought G-L-O-R-I-A was created just so you could dance dance you did all 5-2 and eyes of blue of you your shy pulled my shy like magnets we were inseparable, the late 60’s belonging to our memories I miss you! I was your lean and lanky to your petite and pretty… Your father took you on his transfer, even after pleas to please let you stay three years the longest time ever in one place, brat that you were, the AF claimed him, but O to finish high school with friends of the girl who had the Sandy/Sammy eyes of blue, your shy shimmered away in laughter at my wry comments that only you understood making me feel even that much taller so I never wore heels around your wearing heels because we really belonged on the same level you and I… we were best friends and still would be… I sent a pink rose bush to your mother as anger at your father’s decision didn’t let me do anything but acknowledge “Mrs. & Family…” but I really knew her better than him and was ashamed after at my disrespect your father needed his family…I understood why he wouldn’t allow mine to guardian you to finish school… he had served his time in ‘Nam and needed to hug all tight… sometimes survivors do that… I sent a living reminder of you after we had separated, school behind us, some college behind us, me a newlywed, alone in the house when your mother called “because you were her best friend,” in short simple words as was her Appalachian background she outlined your having gone to church to share your love of God to the students, she was so proud of this act, that you were teaching others to follow in His footsteps part of you, oh so part of you… how the semi came out in front of you, how she missed you. She just wanted me to know. I hung up, and screamed why! why! immediately coming to mind only the good die young but you were past young, oh God! You were only 21…. I sent a living pink rose bush to commemorate your memory and hoped your Dad, or one of your five brothers would plant it they did. The following year your mother called, “you were her best friend,” and said that year the rose bush bloomed beautiful… pink, and red, roses. I always enjoyed red roses. I still miss you. I plant pink, and red roses. |

Ah shucks, another tissue alert! The good thing about memories are that they creates works of art like this, and the good thing about living ones, is you get to cut them and bring them in the house, and as the fragrance sifts through the room and your heart, we smile! Loved it, can you tell? If I have made you smile today, then I have done my job! ~* Mysteria *~ |

Karilea, This truly touched me in a most private place. I think it's one of your best. I believe Gloria would be very proud of her friend and the talented writer that she's become. I'm certain this lovely tribute brought to her a smile. Well done! Michael Michael Auguste~ |

But in the memories, she still lives on, having left a legacy behind in a friend that loved her enough to remember all those years with tenderness, tears, and smiles...very gentle smile, Sissie |

I think this telling to be among the best... A sad tale and one many of us can relate to in some way on some level of having lost a friend.... I know not what else to say... it touched me too deeply... |

Karilea - This poem really touched me. I guess because I never had a friend so dear when I was younger; and, because there is so much love in every line you wrote. This is really beautiful. Lorelei has a "Gloria-friend" (that's a great way of describing their friendship - I think I'll adopt that term if you don't mind), and it makes me sad they can't live closer together. Especially now. |
