From the bitumen road I diverted By a road sign that beckoned my time The spirits of bush land seemed calling The moments ahead, they were mine The tree tops, in dance were all swaying Some wildlife, I caught with my eyes A desire for freedom consumed me I was charmed by the peacock that cries I stopped where a fence had been broken The remains off a creature still there Been caught by the teeth of barbwire Its remnant stench in the air For a moment I thought of the cruelty Of the hours the creature had cried How the predators found easy target When hungry, how many survived The breeze, brought me callings of welcome Took me closer to earth than I’d been I stood, closed my eyes to its voices I saw what our founders had seen Some bush, that was free and still virgin Where man and destruction had passed Mother Nature, in all of her glory A vision, that heaven would cast As I moved, all the undergrowth crackled As I walked, all the bushes did bend As I watched, all the bush started living As I sat, with the bush I was friend I strolled to a gum proudly standing Looked up, where its trunk touched the sky I watched all the birds, in their playtime How quickly, the clouds went on by A Wallaby hurried for cover With a Joey, now large in its sack At once then aware I was watching That Wallaby didn’t come back I wandered on down to the gully Where a creek bed of water did run I drank from the belly of nature I bathed on a rock with the sun I sang with the birds in a chorus I ran with the lizard and skink I watched all the ants make their castles With nature, I found time to think I accepted the gifts bush had given I joined all the voices that talked I discarded all my inhibitions With nature and freedom I walked |

It has been a wish of mine for many years to go to your country. I just haven't got my act together so I can go but I'd really love to. It's poems like this that make the desire even greater! Wonderful in touch with nature poem....I really enjoyed the atmosphere you captured here in this piece.......g'day to ya mate This is one of mine inspired by my country.... The Shining Feeling From where I stand I see the thaw and on the frozen floor the sun upon the glowing crust is glistening bright and pure. Upon the rolling marbled hills the glossy snowdrifts ride. There is no place nor earthly thrill like springtime greenwood life. A musty scent is on the air, I lift my head and breathe. Out of the sky I seem to hear a calling on the breeze. The sound of God and life and wild, the sound of earth that grows, out of the wind that whispers by the sound of trees that moan. I know just why it is I care, I bend my head and pray. I cannot lock them in my heart these tear drops on my face. |

Rick, it's nice to see another Aussie face here. You have described your walk so well, I felt I was out there in the bush again, could almost smell the trees. Thank you and a belated welcome. Dee I wish you every happiness and may you always have the best of the good things in life. a brand |

Welcome to Passion Rick, I am relatively new here and these people are awesome, as was your poem. I have a friend in Australia so see pictures of his home and you have described it beautifully like I was there right with you. He is coming in a couple of months to B.C., in Canada (pretty nice here too) so maybe we will take you on a walk with our poetry so stick around here. I look forward to more of your work, as I absolutely love poetry with images, thank you and again, welcome. "Lose your temper and you lose a friend; lie and you lose yourself." |

Rick: I enjoyed this so much. I have always been a fan of A. B. Paterson and Henry Lawson. Your poem reminds me of some of their work. Hope you'll stick around and enjoy this site. Betty Lou Hebert |
