Welcome to the circus...won’t you take a seat?
The house is full, and business here is steady...
Sit right down and take a load off both your weary feet...
We’ll let the show begin,
when you are ready...

Just to entertain you...before the show begins...
We’ll send in all the clowns to draw your laughter...
Isn’t it amazing how the clowns look like your friends?
You’ll think of them and smile,
forever after!

Suddenly it changes...silence fills the air...
A spotlight falls upon the show’s Ringmaster...
With much aplomb, his speech is given, then magic fills the air...
It all begins, and things are spinning,
faster...

Look up high above you...walking on the wire...
People not afraid to take their chances...
Front and center...smoke and flame...a clown ingesting fire...
While all around,
trained animals do dances...

In the next ring over...there stands a sturdy cage...
The animals within are quiet stalkers...
As one man enters, whip in hand, to set the fearful stage...
You flash on daily life,
and all it’s hawkers...

The show has reached finale...the time has come to end...
And you have also reached a new conclusion...
The greatest show on earth is still the one you’re living in...
Now you decide what’s real,
and what’s illusion...

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

...Balladeer...
Thank you for that reply, my friend, as this poem is a favorite to me.  I've often thought that life was like a big Circus, and if you look closely, we are all clowns!!!

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

I like the analogy here...as one 'clown', I know what life is like under the greasepaint...

Some time ago we did a community tag-along about a Circus...nudge 'Deer a bit, Sunnyone, and I'll bet he'll bring back a reprise...

it's a Circus you'll never forget!

I have to agree with Balladeer..... one of the best closes I have ever read!   You certainly captured the circus virtually but that ending makes the whole thing wonderful....great write!

...Poet deVine...
Yes...there are those of us that are well-acquainted with both the reality and the illusion!!  Thank you, Poet....great to see you here!!

...Sunshine...
How about helping me give the 'Deer a nudge, big sis?  Thanks!!!!!

Thank you, et, and I appreciate what you said!!  I think I was just following my Grandmother's advice from years ago:  "You can goof on the beginning, and mess up the middle, but the ending is what they'll remember!"  After playing music all these years, I find her advice invaluable!!!!

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

Your Grandmother was absolutely right, as I am sure going to remember this ending!  This was a fantastic poem, I really loved the analogies used, and of course, the ending was superb.

I love it!
And I know you must be sick of hearing
it but the ending is brilliant!
This is great!
