Doubt…
No headless horseman
This specter of black
That haunts me
As he rides his steed
With sparks flying
From iron shod hooves,
Across the stones
I have lain down
Over so many years.

He quickly slips
a noose around me
And with a slap
Of his boot
Leaves me dangling
From gibbet
Hung as

Laughter
From his sharp lips
Mocks the idea
Of comfort…
Love that nurtures
Without
Condemnation
Or scorn.

Such merry eyes
He turns on me
With time and again.
Their twinkle
Accusing
“Fool!”
While I flail
For footing
And dance
On thin air.

Sounds like a rodeo rider who's been out-maneuvered.  Vivid, well done!  I do have a feeling this is metaphorical, but I love the literal of it, too!

Powerful images!

Sounds like your muse was visiting the 17th century late last eve in the footfalls of yestermoons....

very dark, and haunting....and a keeper....
