Coming Home
Virginia Salter

Could my own cooking
have been this fine before?
Was the grass ever
this green?
Did the cats
ever want to cuddle so?
And my bed,
did it ever gently hold me
in quite this ecstasy?
My rut, was it ever
such a comfortable,
predictable routine?
Could “Home Sweet Home”
have been
this succulent?
Traveling
now seems
to be a dream
until the photos
hit the scene
to prove that I really did
all those things
in those far away places.

We always look forward to the journey...we always sigh deeply once we're "home"....

well done Virginia...

Thanks, all!  It never ceases to amaze me, when I return home, that I was, just hours ago...in another place doing many other kinds of things not available to do in our little town, but slowing the pace, snuggling one's own pillow and even experiencing, again, one's own cooking can be lovely!

As one who spends much time as a road musician, I know and felt all these things that you wrote about here......this poem is like a part of me, and to anyone that has spent much time away from home, it will be appreciated!!

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

Thanks, Sunnyone, I'm sure you, perhaps better than many, would know the joy of coming home.

As they say, there's no place like home!!  But, it is fun and exciting to see new places.  NIce write!

Very nice! It reminds us that even though we are always dying to go on a vacation...it's always great to come home!
