In a corporeal internship...

0 posted 2001-06-27 04:57 PM

Something different -- something new
Places to be and things to do
People about me -- no one I know
Lots of free time -- yet nowhere to go.

A strange phase in life, this year has been
More downs and strife than ever I'd seen.
It seems that it's time for my Karma to change...
For I've seen enough of its bottomless range.
It's true that what rises must also come down,
But then, shouldn't that cycle come right back around?

Not that I'm ungrateful for the good I've had...
It just passed too soon like some fleeting fad.
And the things in my life that mattered the most
Have drifted away, haunting me like a ghost.

I wonder if I am putting time to waste
Pursuing a dream only my mind can taste...
Is Destiny written, or do I decide
Where, when, how, and if events should collide?
If they be the former, there's no use in trying --
To say they could be different would only be lying.
But be they the latter, there's no room for doubt:
That dream in my mind I can't be without.

Thank you, Cpat.  Questions are part of what life is all about.  Unfortunately, many people don't ask enough of them at times...  Thanks for reading.

Very close, SEA!  This was written during my first term at a university -- capturing a snapshot of questions and contemplations...  Thanks for the compliment!

That is my biggest question of all, why the good seems so brief, and the rest so all enduring. Good one, Mark.

I would imagine, Sandra, to afford us the opportunity to appreciate the good times that much more -- how can you know what's "good" until you know what's "bad"?  How can you appreciate what you have until you understand what it's like when you don't?  Some things simply need to be experienced for it to start to sink-in.  Remember:  there are no mistakes if you learn from them.  That's part of what the human experience is all about (at least for what I've been able to gather, so far...).  Thanks for spending some time on it.

Mark:

So ture

A dream is as diaphanous as breath
yet as sure that it can build a castle
stone by stone of river rock
as it can whistle
from a puckered five year old

but oh
when it touches the wrinkled waiting
of a promise

it whispers what hope is
...
You inspired me with this remember...thanks

Martie -- thank you for a poetic and contemplative response!  To inspire others is a grand and satisfying honor, not to mention reward.  I'm so glad I could breathe new life and perspectives to these older works.

Logan:  thank you, Sir, for taking a moment to consider this piece and sharing some words of your own.  (The trick to change is to have the Wisdom to know when to stay the same...).
