Oh How Lovely Life Will Be! Virginia Salter Shuffle off to Buffalo I found the crown, a prince, He lives just west of Tupelo; oh, come, now, don’t you wince! The grass is green, the birds do sing the moon is sinking low I’ve found a boy to share my dream and we will love just so. The sun won’t burn our pixie dust nor melt away the rain For we will find it in the morn dangling from a string. Much as the baubles on a chain around a true love’s girth Glinting in the light of dawn filling life with mirth. As spider weaves a web for home and captures meal with same I’ll use my powers of persuade to learn quite well his name. And when he’s become a man and I a maiden fair I’ll never ever try to get that man out of my hair. © June 26, 2001 |
