In light I stand, peer in dark window's past,
I cup my hands as visors, shade salute,
time so patient, it's distant shadow cast
and now emotions not so resolute.

This bright day in stark clarity apprise
the Love we Loved and longed so long ago,
glazed panes reflect disparity and lies,
through portholes tint no hint of afterglow.

But truth as spectrum bursts through aperture,
outshone the colored memory withdraws,
gleam valid that enchanted past obscure,
reach back and douse the flame of that lost cause.

Twas I who carried torch for all these years,
lit not the way ahead but clouded mind
and slowed my passage through it's sea of tears,
Romantically regretted till it blind.

I cannot re-aquire time spent dark
nor blame your unawareness of my plight,
I will however pray there's yet a spark
of hope that Love's light warms me through life's night.

Richard, this is absoutely fantastic and your use of metaphors in this poem is superb!  I think next to Flatlander's Lament, this may just be the second best poem you have ever written, and I congratulate you on an absolutely wonderous read.  Thank you.

Dropped in to read this again, and this time I think I want to mention that the mood that you set in this poem was fantastic.  I can almost see the pensive look in his eyes.  Nicely done.
