In what simple way do you touch
The very center of love;
That essence of eternal desire cloaked
In regal mystery which in its foray
From one heart to the next doth
Ride the glorious steed of hope?

Equally distanced from both
Heartache and sublime,
Lies the epicenter of those rumbling
And quaking fears which
Threaten to shake from under me
The walls built with forced labor
To protect my most precious kingdom.

Yet… in some simple way,
You have breached the perimeter,
Stolen into the darkness,
Your face painted in both black and green
To dare the triumph of conquest
On this unstable ground.

Equally distanced from both
Risk and surety….
I stand in confusion with trembling
Anticipation of surrender.
