A View From The Summit |

I scale the mountain made of stone But reaching the top, I stand alone And the view that I had hoped to see Is a far cry from eternity... Blinded by the sunlight's glare I shade my eyes to ease my stare In disbelief, I look ahead At the valley below in sanguine red Armies of clouds wage a war Angainst a sky that is clear no more. Despite my clothing, I feel a chill Penetrate through my base of will I realize the rock I stand upon Will support my weight 'till my balance is gone. With all my rope and safety gear, I wonder what I have to fear Knowing if I were to plummet My hooks would not let go the summit. Considering this pleasant thought, The sun reveals what I had sought: The clouds defeated, disappear And leave a valley without fear. The crimson hue below is shed Or was it all within my head? Either way, I'm confident That all the time that I had spent Tackling the rough terrain Has proven not to have been in vain, For suddenly the view I see Is well beyond eternity.
