My Turtle
or ‘Yes, I wrote this today…not when I was 12’

I took my turtle for a walk today
we started in the garden
he commented that it needed weeding
my head nodded in agreement
we walked on then downtown
casually moving past the windows
he saw a book he thought I’d like
so we went inside and bought it
for dinner tonight we had a salad
I made the dressing fresh from herbs I grew
he wouldn’t even try it
it’s hard to get him to try anything new
now my turtle sits quietly
beside me as I write
sometimes he offers suggestions
mostly just tells me that I’m great
I couldn’t have a better friend
he knows me in and out
asks only for my company
an occasional walk about

I almost feel a song coming on:

Me and my turtle...to the tune of Me and my shadow...I could probably do it if I could remember the rest of the shadow song.

Enjoyed the walk about with you and your turtle!

JLR,

I loved this!  Such a cute story.     Makes me feel like writing about a hamster I once had.

JLR, I love this!!  Today in our Sunday paper was an article about some people who had a petting zoo and are missing a 75lb African spur-thighed tortoise.  She "ran" away at about 1/2 mile a day.  Boy, will she have a story to tell when she gets home!  I wonder if she is on her way to Africa or just Michigan.  Keep them light and fun,  ME
