Yesterday's Remnants

my tomorrow exists in a bucket
lined with remnants of yesterday
lost in a daze, i reside in a maze
past illusions hold future at bay

two steps forward...three strides to the right
life's labyrinth has many dead-ends
circle around trodding familiar ground
then slowly peek 'round the next bend

appears safe enough...i'll give it a try
but looks can be very deceptive
move on for a bit, survive on my wit
at times you may think me quite festive

then suddenly, obstacles rise in my path
go over, around them or through
mind growing weary, eyes become teary
my options seem scattered and few

so, i rummage through yesterday's remnants
choose a comfortable memory or two
i'll get through today, with little dismay
no obvious hazards in view

but no new tomorrows yields nothing
stale yesterdays now line my pail
tomorrow i'll start...learn to follow my heart
break free from this self-imposed jail

tomorrow...

Vicky~
My goodness girlie ... this is fantastic.
I REALLY enjoyed how you worked the two phrases into this one beautiful poem !

'my tomorrow exists in a bucket
lined with remnants of yesterday'

You just 'thought' your muse was napping !
All it took was a new bottle of ink !
What a terrific challenge-taker you are !

Love ya', sweetie.

As I was reading this...I was recalling several other times when Margie gave you some challenge phrases...and then like now she inspired great things in you....

I'm going crazy, I'm losing sleep.
I'm in too far, I'm in way too deep over you.
You'll always be the one.
You were the first, you'll be the last.

This is superb!  So thoughtful and yet filled with elements of play.  I enjoyed your comebacks to the repliers, too!  You keep having fun with your writing!
