A child died today
and the whole world came to see
tuning in from coast to coast
glued to their TV.

Microphones and cameras
shoving in for the best bite.
And I, standing on the outside,
felt it wasn’t right.

Dignity is what was missing
as the media scrambled around.
Compassion never had a chance
upon that killing ground.

A child died today
and madness reigned free.
How do I know you ask?
You see, that child was me.

*Unfortunately, this repost is as relevant today,
in light of the terrible crime in Houston,
as it was when I wrote it two years ago.

Don't know what crime it is about, but I do think you wrote a beautiful poem.

Shoving, pushing, tailgating, the whole me first, get mine mentality leads to the lack of manners and callous disregard for each other which then dengrates to the pompous and
distant, detached and dispassionate observation of the misery of our fellow man. One can imagine the ignorant middle (dark) age denizens and the hearty delight in their eyes when they in their impoverished and unsophisticated existence get to view a beheading.

Yes, I heard about it on the news tonight.
Why must the children suffer?
Why, can be ask over and over, but the answer will never be the same.
All I can say is, "They are now in God's hands."

Is this the one about the five children killed by mom who was depressed? This time around at least? Poem about tragedy will sadly ever be relevant.

Sharon,

I don't know about what happened in Houston,
but do know that the media frenzy has gotten completely out of hand.  You said this well!

A woman drown her 5 kids today. As I watched a newsman standing in front of their house, I could see 'gawkers' driving by....such a shame...

Thank you for your kind words.....

Sharon, you did a touching poem here, and yes, it is sadly always relevant. I am still in shock about the news today. I just can't believe a mother could do such a thing.
Sigh..the world is not pretty. Thank God for PIP
