if we are to love,
then, let us love as we were meant to,
truly and honestly,
                              with the depth and feeling
that marks the most complete of lovers

not as young lovers,
whose passion soon fades with the setting sun,
not as old lovers,
whose flames of desire snuff out like old candles,
but just as lovers,
as two people who are not just two pieces of the same puzzle,
but who are puzzles in their own right
two people who will spend the rest of their lives
working together, finding pieces of themselves
that they never knew they had
pieces that they will find in corners of their lives that they
          never knew existed
but, they won’t be missing pieces,
they will be the pieces that they have shut off from themselves,

pieces that will come into being when the love from another heart,
the light from another heart, allows us to finally look into those corners
because we know that their love will be with us
their love will be with us to help us face what is in those corners
so that we might grow,
          so that we might change,
so that we might love deeper and truer than we ever thought possible

for this is what loves bestows to us,
it is the idea that we will find not only who we are now,
but who we are to be
and, in finding that idea,
          we become more than soulmates
                    we become more than lovers

we become what love is. . .

...an absolutely marvelous writing...you have been able to put words to a definition of love that seems so evasive to so many...thank you for such truth in the beauty of words...I love this...

All of love is just a mystery

You have analyzed it in such a beautiful thought-provoking and wonderful way.......

I quite enjoyed the intercating deep thoughts you've penned here......

I balked a bit at the "old lovers", but I pressed on and found you have described the pureness of love very well.

Sven, this is beautiful.  You did a great job of describing what a mature, lasting love should be.  I love how you described not only how two lovers fit together, but how they fit into the big picture around them, too.

Take me as I am or watch me as I go

Sven loved the way you pieced this puzzle together.
He is light and I am darkness yet we fit together because we are different as day and night.

Beautiful, Sven!  It causes me to recall the one thing, in particular, that makes a relationship succeed...when the two persons in it have strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other.  Not that cannot have the same strengths, but that where the have a weakness, the other has that strength.  Of course, it only works if the two are able to see it that way, a way to make their union a truly strong one.  I know some people who really seem to fit each other just that way.

This is absolutely beautiful!
You already know that I'm a huge fan of your romantic heart~
Yes, love can be a puzzle - a mystery, but, when you find your soulmate it's like a ying to your yang (a perfect fit) and you speak of that well in the ending verse

Take care,
Melissa~
