Her Love would arrive for a visit, She'd not wait but instead would prepare, For today was Sunday or is it? Only two days a week did she care. What she wore was mixed stripes white and green, Not her choice but it matched her red hair, Stainless steel mirror it's scratchy sheen, Reflects sunless existence lived there. Removed the white socks used as rollers, With a deft hand she checked for some bounce, Ate a pill controlling bi-polar, Listening for the names they'd announce. Using coffee ground to fine powder As eyeliner applied to her lash, When the others began to crowd her, She drew close her cosmetic stash. Next she placed the sticky red candy Between lips that she held straight and tight, Effecting a gloss she thought dandy, This her lipstick viewed in the right light. Now she palmed in their melting refuge, Saved and traded for red M&M's, At the right time applied them as rouge, For to keep him was her stratagem. At that moment they called out her name, Lifting her spirits though mispronounced, Doesen't matter her heart was inflamed, For her man's here and that's all that counts. At their greeting they broke out in smiles, Through their eyes was a caring revealed, Incomplete, now their Love reconciles Over phones cross a hard plastic shield. Twenty minutes just two times a week, With their hands just as close as they get, In rushed whispers they coo as they speak Of a future rejoined a duet. Then too soon a harsh voice barks his name, Says "time's up" and he wished he could wail, But it's better for her that he's tame, Forces smile then he leaves her in jail. |

Excellent story sir!! At first, I thought perhaps she was institionalized. Your work is most welcome in our 'blue heaven'. |

I came looking for "Father's Day" and find a story. From experience? Well done, it carries the reader right along and is a great portrayal... Blessed be and merrily met with good thoughts and feelings to all |

Ah geez Richard, this tore at my heart! Do they really do that there? This was an extremely well done story of a very sad nightmare indeed. To bright light, lipstick and freedom for J soon! ~*~ Remember to tell someone today that you love them as tomorrow may never come ~*~ |

Thank you ladies. Unfortunately most of what I write is from experience. "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve" |

Excellent work. My fave line: Ate a pill controlling bi-polar, Listening for the names they'd announce. Corinne |

I knew there must be at least one Jaqueline poem I had missed... and also in reading these early posts... its fascinating to compare them to your more recent posts and see how much your poetry and style has developed in a very short time. must mean your a born poet huh? |
