Upon the sky so robin egg blue, I smiled to see still a half moon. The same moon that shone so bright, as we lay there in its night light. Pale white against the blue cast my thoughts on only you. The tender look upon your face, as you melted into my embrace. I saw a small tear in your eye, kissing it gently, I said, “please don’t cry” “Only tears of joy, my love,” was her reply, “for my love for you will never die.” I rocked her gentle, holding in place, then reached up and cupped her face. Hand held softly to her cheek, my lips close to her ear did seek. Whispered words of love declared, face brushed with her soft hair. We both knew we only had that night, for on the morrow, I would leave to fight. How to wrap a lifetime in hours spent, already half the darkness had come and went. That and more, that half moon reminded me, as the ship slowly slipped out to sea. |
