"How quaint." I heard with disbelieving ears,
Passe' said another, "Gone with the years."
A word I had spoke, caused slighting looks,
Did it now only exist in dusty books?
Where are the principles of the three musketeers,
Camelot, Roland, and others we held dear.
Where are the flags so bravely unfurled,
What has happened to this tired old world.
Where a word was sealed with only a shake,
no lawyers were called over a simple mistake.
Code Duello was often used,
to rectify principles that were abused.

Principles? Or a way of life,
Under the word, men died in strife.
What is the word I dance around?
HONOR
A concept that holds its ground.
To be honorable is to be true,
A truth inside to fit me and you.
Honor will not keep us from making a mistake,
But they will be honest and not a fake.
Has the world gone so far from this?
If so, then our ideals are certainly remiss.
A code by which only you can give,
One quite apparent by how you live.

You'll be glad to know that at least in our little town, at one little elementary school, the words honor and integrity are again being bandied about...well, it's a start. Perhaps it is so in all of them in this town, but at this time, I can only vouch for one.

AND BTW, almost as important as that, great job on this poem, it is tightly composed with fantastic flow and message!

Wonderful poem about something I deem very important right up there with integrity.

Honour...men have died for that word....women have suffered for thier honour...does it even exist anymore? Gang members wear their colours...kill for slights imagined...is that honour? You have penned this well my friend....

superb work here Logan, indeed honor should mean as much now as it did then. . .

well done. . .

Yes, honor should be one of the highest priorities in life...excellent reminder, Logan...thanks for sharing it with us...

I’d tell it to your face,
