Is not necessarily by Thoreau
Or for that matter Keats or Shelley
Or Edgar Allan Poe
It might not be amongst the
Dusty books there on the shelf
The greatest poem you ever read
May just be written by yourself

Did you ever write a poem
That just made you softly sigh
Was there that one emotion
That made you bittersweetly cry
Is there one that was born to you
That made you wholly believe
Words weren’t born long time ago
You yourself can conceive

This poem that I am writing
Is not the best there ever was
But few poems can do for me
What my own poetry does
When you think of Percey Shelly
And when you think of ole John Keats
Remember theirs is their own
Even if...
You wish to match their feats

I hope the poetry you respect
From that which you have grown
I hope the best poem you ever read
Was one you call your own

One of my favorites, Walt! Can't wait to see it in the book! It is in the book, I think, right?

How true!! But the best one I've ever read is the one I haven't written yet!

Hey Walt I get where you're coming from. The best poem I've ever read may not be my own but I wish it was...so I try and that's where this poem comes in!   Great stuff Walt!

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie

well Walt i must say this is really amazing
and i always enjoy yours and i am proud of
my writing.
Back in 1993 one of my poems i sent to one of my favorite musicians was turned into a song and thats how i knew my writing was good enough to keep on writing, the poem i sent was called "Wonderin'" and i had wrote it right after seeing a program on tv that shows all the kids who are suffering from malnutrition and diseases over seas and it
got to me deeply so this poem just came flowing right out and i am glad it is a song now,I am most proud of writing it and it becoming a song
