I saw listless cats and dogs moping around the tiny confines in of their cramped cages and wondered Is it better to be fed and chained or is it more desirable to be hungrily strayed? i was roaming around a world, with all i needed on my back and felt inadequate to reply [This message has been edited by faterider (edited 06-06-2001).] |

definitely a conundrum but, fed, chained or fenced...life is longer for most pooches...yet I've neighboring ones that get so ignored for hours/days on end, their mournful cries nearly kill my heart I also know my cats live longer for the containment of the two neighboring dogs, adorable as they are with perky ears...their large, loud traps eat away at their charm. Wow, I never expected to let loose with all this, sorry faterider. your poem did its stuff, I be thinkin'! |

Nice, philosophical write. Makes one pause and think. Well done. Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. Philip Sidney (1554-1586) Loving in Truth |

Beautiful question. I think there is no straight answer, everybody draws a different line to how much one is willing to accept being chained to be fed. (does that makes any sense? ) I'm chained and being fed for 33 years (so is my man), but I'm I'm free to choose the hungry strayed sight once in a while. I think one needs a bit of both to be happy. I've asked the same question...though not from such an observation point as this. Impressive! |

At first sight And at the first sound One desires to see reflections And hear resounding echoes To be free in the wild To be in the hunt For survival Is instinct's own reason Animal, yet natural To be bound At master's mercy Expectantly awaiting Breakfast, lunch and dinner, to happen Lazy, also natural Well, then Even in the wild Are we not at the mercy Of the Master, some name it destiny, others divinity Believers or non-believers Might is superfluous But is lethargy the answer And can the wild be tamed? ...... what can I say, allow me my lifetime to seek these answers, everyone wished they knew... Thanks for your poetry... and the permission to be inquisitive into myself... regards, sudhir |

Yes, sometimes a reply is like like being fed, that is an excellent metaphor. Glad to know you're not here to get your ego stroked! Kathleen Blake |

faterider...A very thoughtful and thought provoking write..I have had so many lost and hungry animals come to my door, almost as if I had a sign out...and if to consider this thought of humans..I think it is better to be free then chained...but, there are many "buts".... |

definitely thought provoking here kaile. . . you've asked this question very well. . . ------------------------------------------------------ To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
